Timber Frame Wall Tie Installation Tool

This timber frame wall tie tool is a hand support tool for holding a wall tie whilst it is driven into a timber frame. It supports the tie during hammer-driven installation and features a hardened end for striking with a hammer.

Cut the wall tie fitting tool to the required length using a hacksaw, leaving enough of the tie protruding to achieve the minimum required embedment in the timber frame, usually 70mm.

Suitable diameters: 

• Fits ties of 4mm and 6mm diameter only

How to use the timber frame wall tie fitting tool

1. Cut the tool to length using a hacksaw. Ensure the amount of tie required to achieve minimum embedment is protruding from the tool, usually 70mm.
2. With the tie inserted into the tool, offer it up to the timber frame. Ideally, the tool should rest on the horizontal surface of the brick.
3. Hammer the tie into the frame by striking the hardened end of the installation tool with a hammer.
4. Continue driving the tie into the timber until the hilt of the tool touches the outer face of the timber frame.

The required embedment determines how much tie should protrude from the tool. The usual 70mm figure should not be treated as a universal requirement for every installation.
