The retro fitted movement joint is designed to relieve compression forces in brickwork that is subject to thermal expansion. Typically movement joints are retrofitted between 6.0 and 10 linear metre spacings and can be fitted in to solid or cavity constructed walls.
Installation:
- The masonry is cut vertically with a full thickness outer leaf slot.
- The slot is then tied using horizontal slip ties fitted within the mortar bed joint at 450mm vertical spacing
- Wall ties (which have low lateral resistance) are installed at 225mm staggered vertical spacings either side of the vertical slot.
- The vertical slot is then backfilled with compressible waterproof polybead.
- The joint is then made good with colour matched polysulphide laid onto the polybead and finished flush with the surface of the brickwork.
Please read our method statements for the installation process, or get in touch with us for more information.
